Fire Controlman 2nd Class James Neisch, assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford’s (CVN 78) combat systems department, breaks down what is on the line for his fellow shipmates in this weeks edition of “Warship 78”.
Ford is currently undergoing its post-shakedown availability at Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding.
Combat Systems Warship 78
CS7 is a division that is responsible for the defense of the ship. We maintain, repair and operate CIWS, RAM, and NATO. It’s a wonderful Division to be a part of.
Warship 78 is fresh, it sounds aggressive and, you know, this is the United States Navy. We have a job that makes us have to be able to engage those threats. If we were not here, then we can’t project the U.S. presence where it needs to be. So, when we’re out there in hostile environments and threats are everywhere, if something slips through we’re here to make sure that we can continue fighting. It’s a lot of pressure having a job where everybody’s life can potentially be in our hands.
So, yeah, when we’re underway, we can be up all night long trying to make sure that this stuff is ready to do its job.
I’m FC2 Meesh of Ford’s Combat Systems Department.
We are Warship 78.
