Civil War-era cannonballs demolished by U.S. Army at Pennsylvania Guard’s Fort Indiantown Gap
FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, PA, UNITED STATES
The U.S. Army and Fort Indiantown Gap, run by members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, teamed-up this month to dispose of hundreds of Civil War-era cannonballs found in Pittsburgh this spring.
The munitions were destroyed at Fort Indiantown Gap. The image above shows an 8 lb. civil war-era cannonballs.
Several variants were found on the site of the now defunct Allegheny Arsenal.
A cross-section of a Civil War-era cannonball shows the shot inside.
Thank you U.S. Army National Guard Major Angela King-Sweigart for the great photos.
